“I have visited this area to climb, on National Outdoor Leadership School courses and, most recently, with family and friends. And by family I include babies and toddlers. The easy access meant we could carry young kids in on our backs and expose them to the majesty of the natural world on a weekend backpacking trip. That made the area our go-to mountain destination in the years when my daughter was young. And those granite slabs above Deep Creek Lake were a natural water park where my daughter and her friends spent hours splashing about.”
