Three options for earning credit

Direct credit from your school
Many universities and colleges offer credit for NOLS courses. Review this list(opens in new tab) to see if this is an option for you.

Credit from University of Utah
Register for credit directly with the University of Utah, complete your wilderness medicine course as scheduled, and the credit is recorded on an official university transcript and transferred to your school.

Credit from Western Colorado University
Earn credits from Western Colorado University and transfer them to your college. This is the best option if you're planning to use AmeriCorps or 529 funds(opens in new tab).
Transferring credits: Your school may have a preference about whether you select credits from Western Colorado University or University of Utah. Please check with your advisor before selecting.
Direct credit from your school
Ask the academic advisor at your school if you need to do anything prior to or during your course to qualify for credit.
If your school directly accepts credit from NOLS(opens in new tab), speak with your advisor on what the school needs to see from you or NOLS to qualify for academic credit. If your advisor needs information from NOLS, they can contact NOLS Wilderness Medicine Financial Aid team at [email protected].
University of Utah
To apply for credit through University of Utah, register and pay for the credits through their website(opens in new tab) during the first day of your course. You will receive a confirmation email from the school. Eligibility. Open to high school graduates or rising seniors with a 3.2 GPA or higher.
To receive academic credit, you need to have University of Utah submit a transcript to your school. To order transcripts, visit the Transcripts and Verification(opens in new tab) page of the University website. Sign in using the information emailed to you by the University when you signed up for credits. If you have problems ordering a transcript, you can call the transcript office at (801) 581-8965. For problems signing in to your U account, contact the computer help desk at (801) 581-4000.
Transcripts are not available until after the end of the term in which your course occurs. Please refer to the following chart.

Western Colorado University

Registering with Western Colorado University(opens in new tab) must be completed no less than 30 calendar days before the course payment is due to allow for processing and course space availability.Â

After your course, follow the instructions in your Western Colorado University's NOLS Wilderness Medicine credit registration packet to get your academic credit.
